About the Book

A sunnah that I wish to discuss here, and which is related to Nikah is that Nabi ﷺ, whilst explaining a principle of life said.

The explanation of this Hadith is that the very nature of women is such that if the man is softhearted, they overpower them, which we will term as the “petticoat government” or we will say that the women is wearing the trouser in the house.

Further the hadith says that if a person (man) is hardhearted then he will overrule the women. This is the general rule that is common everywhere.

Then Nabi ﷺ goes on to explain his own position. He says

“I love and prefer to be overpowered and to be the nobler one, and I do not wish to be the one who dominates and overpowers.”
